Hello all,
I am new to electronics, but i have a decent understanding of programming (I am a physics student). So I have wanted to try and build this tracking system using a step motor and a webcam. The basic algorithm will be to subtract one image from another find the change in the images and rotate the camera using the step motor to keep the change in the cameras center of view.
I dont imagine the coding to be to difficult for the webcam. Though the interface between the computer and the step motor i am un sure about. Is this a complicated affair or should this be fairly striaght forward?
thanks!

Hi Nicholi,
well you can make use of controller to interface stepper motor with PC, all you need is simple serial or com port communication.

data can be easily exchanged between PC software and hardware which intern control the stepper motor. For stepper motor control using controller see stepper motor tutorial

and for PC interfacing part, take a look at serial communication tutorial. Both will help you a lot.

BTW which programming language are you going to use? and how are you going to interface camera with PC? is it a usb cam?
