I want to do a project "EMBEDDED SYSTEM FOR CASH DEPOSIT AT ATM"
i want to know how currency identification and detection can be done??
I want to use microcontroller for interfacing lcd to display messages to customers
matlab for image processing...
this is what i have thought..
i want suggestions from you....

Interesting topic but I have no idea how currency is being detected via any algorithm etc. maybe that's the reason we do not have ATM that accept currency notes as input. You can take you reference from vending machines (like on airports) which accept currency notes. There is a detector module connected on those machines. So maybe you search for those to get better idea?

Sir we can use matlab to first identify currency, using image processing, template matching, corelation
then there are currency detectors which are available at many bank branches to check genuinity of currency
further we know there are currency counting machine available
So we can combine above three concepts and make a new embedded system...
need ur worth advice...

currency counting machines do not bother about genuineness of currency. Its basically meant to count. and even in banks I think they use only UV light to see highlights of currency not actually use any kind of detectors or something. I might be wrong but I've never seen anyone using it in our banks Anyway, I agree with you about image processing and looking for important aspects of a currency notes and comparing it with ideal one. Another thing is type of ink used. I think that ink glows in UV light. so you can capture currency image under UV light and then compare it with idealistic image.
