Hi All

I have an idea, I am sure it is not new and I have seen variants of what I would like to do but I cannot find anything implemented in the manner I would like.

I would like to make a couple of wireless MAME controllers which connect to a PC.

Each controller would need about 30 inputs each. I am have no experience with PIC's or AVR's and certainly no experience with bluetooth.

So far my research has indicated that:
  • What every the solution it needs to be recognised HID

  • It will not be easy


Some of the details that I would like to implement are:
  • both the controller and wireless device on one board

  • power supplied by rechargeable batteries

  • batteries can be recharged via USB connection

  • the components on the board need to be low profile


I know that a solution could be made using something like an Arduino but this would lead to a bulky, multiple PCB solution.

Could anybody shed some light on how I should proceed?

i link bulky hardware will be needed in every case
i think the HID can be a good solution with some changes

You can use a PIC with USB device capability + a bt module from sparkfun (they have good variety). PICs are low power and they have good support for USB stack. They also have examples for enumerating PIC as an HID device. you can take a look at it. Let me hear some thoughts on this input
