I still do not get what you asking actually so i have posted some question that might help me to know more regarding your LCD problem...
Do you just want to check whether your LCD is working or not?
what happened to LCD?
what are you getting on display?
did you make wrong connections to LCD?

Hi everyone,
I try to connect a LCD module to a pic microcontroller , but I am having problem with it. I use a Wintek LCD module wich has integrated an ST7066U LCD controller. When I connect it, the voltage regulator starts to overheat , so I guess there is a shortcircuit somewhere. Even if I supply only the LCM the 5V appears on the LED+(Pin 15)and the 0V at the LEd-(Pin16). Due to the BLock Diagramm they should be seprated, the first pins should go the the LCM, and the last ones to the Backlighting. My question is can I do something to work it out? The fault is mine or it is something wrong with the Lcd module?
My connection is:
Pin1: Gnd -> 0V
Pin2: Power supply for the LCM-> 5V
Pin3: Vo - I connect this to a 10kPot.
Pin4: RS - PortC4
Pin5 : R/W -> 0V
Pin6 : E -> PortC5
Pin6-Pin14: D0-D7 ->PortB0-7
Pin15: Led+ ->5V
Pin16: Led- -> 0V

the problem could be high current consumption... usually its the backlight LED. Try to remove the connections of pin 15 and 16.. and see if you get the same problem..
also.. is your LCD working properly?
