hi friend
i have kept the order for the cable at ebay.I have a doubt .is it possible to trace a location of the cell phone when u know the IMEI number of the phone and the phone is made to give a call to a particular
helpline number.

hmm... its only possible if the IMEI information is also transmitted along with the SIM card information.
Usually IMEI is separate from SIM card information.. so its not possible also.. mobile should also support some features.. i think..

Did you check whether your mobile work with that cable or not?
also did you try Bluetooth COM port?

ok.. i think with AT commands you can read the service info message which tells you the position of the mobile holder..
thats a good thing i guess..
regarding bluetooth.. It creates a virtual COM port in your PC so you can transfer data via Bluetooth to and fro.. just like you do in a serial port simple isnt it?

what will be the precision of the locations in service messages friend?I thought i could make the phone to make a call after sending its IMEI number.the mobile has to register with the local tower with IMEI number to use the tower before making a call.so we can trace the location (jus like police use to do crack down on
criminals)will this work?and ur suggestions friend.

abt the bluetooth even if it works with PC i am planning to do with a controller.so i never tried it.

hmm... I am not sure.. if any AT command provide you the IMEI number.. still you can look for the command.. if that is possible.. u can make the read order in this way...
read the service info message - that will give you the location name.. i donno other information is there in that message.. because on mobile's display.. it just show the location name from which it is getting the signal from..
So after reading that message.. ask phone to send the IMEI..
then transmit this information to wherever you want.. or to the log.

Regarding bluetooth, give it a try

actually i was telling about the PC and Phone connection using bluetooth not Phone and controller.. sorry if u got me wrong..

and.. now tracking is only dependent on the network.. but at least u can get an idea that the person having the phone is in that area.. am i right.... so that info is good.. i mean better than nothing

hi again,i bought rs232 cable and it is working perfectly.the problem now is to interface the cable with controller.
the controller can send and recieve the data through UART but the phone has RS232 interface.so i shld
do interface like this controller->MAX232->cable->phone is it right? and also is it necessary to give a null modem connection at the db9 connector of the phone cable.if so pls tell me how to do it.the other day when i tried to interface with PC .I manually disconnected the signals from db9 end of the computer of the PC byusing a extension cable and found out that the phone requires CTS signal(11 volts) from the computer and DCD apart from (TX,RX,SG),i was using hyperterminal(9600-baud,no flow,8bits,1stopbit).is dcd neccessay?
can u give ur suggestions?

yes its gonna be..
controller->max232->cable->phone
now the extra connections.. that is what you need to know which of them are needed.. are u sure only these two signals are needed.. i want you to confirm this with the help of a sniffer software or serial port monitor software..
Free Serial Port monitor
And take a look at the line view.. in the bottom right u will see all the signals which are activated or deactivated during the serial connection is working. This will give you an idea what is needed.
